#64 The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008)

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. I haven't seen the original, but I hear it was actually a good movie. Everything about this movie is bad. The acting, the characters motivations (or lack thereof), the CGI, the ending - everything.

The worst film I've seen in '09, bar none.

#62 The Forbidden Kingdom (2008)

Not as bad as I thought it would be. I figured white-boy would hold the film back and bring it down to lame territory, but I was impressed. Nice choreography for the fight scenes and definitely not a bad martial arts movie. Plus, this was the first time Jet Li and Jackie Chan got to work together. Hopefully they have more opportunites to do so, as they had good chemistry.

#54 Fast & Furious (2009)

Having not seen an F&F movie since 2 Fast 2 Furious, I was anticipating the original cast being back (mainly Vin Diesel). I was not disappointed. The movie kicked ass and hinted at the other films (as this takes place between the second and third movie) to satisfy the fans. This incarnation was darker and more serious than the others with lots of revenge thrown in for good measure. F&F was full of awesome chases, great racing, and lots of fun.

#53 The Reader (2008)

This should've been nominated for Best Picture instead of Revolutionary Road. Amazingly convincing characters and a dramatic story. Each character is faced with life changing choices and we can see the struggle they have with coming to their decisions. Recommended.

#52 X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

Whoops. Origins wasn't so much Wolverine's origins as it was a butchering of his origins by everyone involved in this film. Tons of inaccuracies with lots of flat acting, reused cliches from previous X-Men films, terrible jokes, and lame plot points. The best parts that made it totally watchable were the unfinished CGI and placeholder art. A true gem in that respect. It will still be interesting to see the finished product in theaters to catch the extra 14 minutes of reshoots involving Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, which in this version is on screen for about 3 minutes.

Definitely no Iron Man or Hulk - X-Men needs to take some time off and come back to the table with some fresh ideas.
