#85 Up (2009)

Pixar continues their streak of great animated movies. Up is definitely in my top 3 favorite Pixar movies with the other two probably being WALL-E and Ratatouille. It tells a fantastic story about a grumpy old man that feels he never fulfilled his promise to his wife to take her on an adventure and an overeager boyscout. A talking dog and giant female bird named Kevin join them along the way. Pixar tells an amazing story with Up and appeals to your emotions like no other animated film has yet. A great movie that everyone should see.

#84 The Deer Hunter (1978)

A classic. They sure as hell don't make movies like this anymore. A very long movie in three acts and in the end the length is justified. Amazing acting by a young De Niro, Streep, and Watkins. We follow a group of friends as they celebrate a marriage, then being shipped off to Vietnam, and the toll it takes on all their lives after the war. A powerful film.

#83 Mutant Chronicles (2008)

A movie based off a table-top game. What more is there to say? I can tell you it is utterly terrible even though Ron Perlman and John Malkovich star. The special effects, which I'm sure were intended to be stylized, are awful. The story is bad. Almost every action the heroes take is counter-productive and goes against their mission of saving humanity.

Chock this up to a movie where the trailer was more fun to watch than the final product.

#82 Valkyrie (2008)

A great, suspenseful movie about one of the many assassination attempts of Hitler by other Germans. When I heard it would be in English, I thought it would turn out cheesy, but 10 minutes into it I didn't care anymore. Eddie Izzard even manages to sneak in. Even though we all know how history turned out, Valkyrie is still exciting to watch to see how close they really came to completing a coup.

#81 The Terminator (1984)

I wasn't sure if I had seen the original Terminator; lucky for me Netflix had it on instant watch. I always remember Arnold as a good Terminator in T2 and was a little fuzzy on T1. You can definitely tell it was made in 1984 with the special effects on display here. The sequel is much better, but for being made in '84 this does a good job of laying out the lore and establishing the characters. Some lines in Salvation I thought were ripped off from Arnold in T2, but they were originally said by Reese in T1. The series makes more sense now and I picked up on a few references to T1 in Salvation.

#80 Terminator Salvation (2009)

Awesomely fun action movie with plenty of plot holes. Terminator looks and sounds great, the main problems being a few disjointed pieces of editing and glaring plot discrepancies if you're a purist. Bale should really drop the gravel and spit yelling voice he's taken a liking too in the past few years for his action roles. Other than that, the action was top notch, Anton Yelchin is a bad ass, and Sam Worthington is great as a human/machine hybrid created by Skynet.

If you like big summer action movies, go see Salvation.

#79 Untraceable (2008)

Utterly awful. Lots of internet buzzwords strung together in sentences to give the appearance that the film knows what its talking about. All the dialogue is terrible. The killer's motive boils down to him being a staunch opponent of net neutrality. What a piece of shit movie.

#78 The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)

After enjoying the latest offering of F&F, a friend told me I should see Tokyo Drift. I try to see all the movies in a series anyways, even though I figured it was going to be terrible after 2 Fast 2 Furious, but it was actually better. Lots of racing, getting in trouble, then more racing to get out of trouble. I like the Vin cameo at the end, too.

#77 Star Trek (2009)

Wow. What a ride. As someone who prefers Star Wars for my space drama, I immensely enjoyed Star Trek. I have seen a few episodes from different series and bits and pieces of the movies, but I can't claim to know much of anything about many of the characters or their backgrounds. This reboot of the franchise has given all the characters a fresh beginning with a superb cast chosen to fill their roles. Star Trek had the potential to be a complete flop if it ended up in the wrong hands. Thankfully, J.J. Abrams and company handled it with care and at the same time introduced it to an entirely new group of fans, myself included.

This won't get me to watch all past series and every Star Trek movie; what it has done is caught my attention for anything these guys do with this franchise in the future.
